How to play DotA online.
1) Purchase Original Warcraft III Frozen Throne Software.
Always support Orginal Software, you can get it worldwide or visit www.blizzard.com/war3/
You can always go Battle.net to play but hard to find user within your same region. Diff region user might cause of delay (lagging) when playing game.

Garena turns the internet into a HUGE Cyber Cafe.
GG Server held a lot of activities like Dota Champion Ship, user can form their Clan and
have competition with others, their online user is easily >50K.

DotA is just part of the game in Garena, if you are interested in Counter-Strike and etc, you can visit Garena website for more information. So far this is my favourite place to play DotA.

ii) BattleLan, LanCraft, YAWLE(Yet Another Warcraft LAN Emulator)
LanCraft and Yawle is another LAN Emulator for Warcraft/Starcraft. All you have to do is go to MIRC and go to server "irc.galaxy.net" and join LanCraft Channel to get the IP address. It is very famous in South East Asia. 2 things you will need to do in order to use these to play with the following tools,
1) Port Forwarding
If you plan to host game, you will need to do simple port forwarding to you modem or router. To know how to do port forwarding, you can go here http://portforward.com/routers.htm they have almost all model tutorial of how to do it. Port to forward is 6112. To check your port is forward correctly you can always go to
If you just want to join game, you can just paste the IP in the programe and start WarIII Frozen Throne.

2) Shutdown all of your firewall. Windows Firewall or other firewall should shutdown or allow connection to port 6112.
